The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has worked closely with Kentucky teachers to develop a new Science Assessment System based upon Kentucky’s Academic Standards
(KAS) for Science.
The new system is comprised of three parts:
- Classroom Embedded Assessments (CEA)
- Through-Course Tasks (TCT)
- Summative Assessment
All grades (K-12) will complete the CEAs and the TCTs, while the Summative Assessment will be administered to students in grades 4, 7 and 11. The Science items for the Summative Assessment were created by Kentucky teachers in a process that began in early 2016.
In March of 2017, Kentucky will administer the Science Summative Assessment as a Field Test and will not include the assessment results in school or district accountability.
By April 14, the District Assessment Coordinator (DAC) will submit TCT student work to the Office of Teaching of Learning. The TCTs submitted are from a bank of items created by Kentucky teachers and available through KDE SharePoint
