Career and Technical Education Resources

Resources relating to Career and Technical Education include those that will assist educators in providing quality instruction to improve the academic and technical achievement of students.  Documents including work-based learning, curriculum development, and facilities are designed to provide information on the types of work-based learning, guidelines for developing curriculum and guidelines for planning facilities.  

Facilities Guide for Career and Technical Education
The material in this guide is designed to aid school administrators, teachers, boards of education, advisory committees, and architects who share responsibility in the planning and equipping of a facility for career and technical education programs. This guide may be used in the construction of new facilities and/or the remodeling of existing facilities.

Kentucky Uniform Academic Course Codes
Attached you will find the updated listing of courses for the 2012-13 academic year. Schools and courses must use these codes for the upcoming year. It is important to utilize the codes correctly to meet federal and state reporting requirements.

Certification Form- TC-3

This form is used by occupation-based Career and Technical Education teachers when applying for the renewal of 1 year certification or rank change.

  • Career Choices

    Career Choices in the middle school is an exploratory course which introduces students to a broad range of career opportunities. Units of instruction focus on three areas... employability skills, career awareness, and education/career planning. The curriculum can be adapted for grade levels seven, eight or nine and various schedules as 6, 9, 12 or 18 weeks. Opportunities are provided for the career planning component to be correlated with the Individual Learning Plan (ILP).
     
  • Career Readiness

    A career ready student is a student who is preparatory in a Career and Technical Education career major and has reached the benchmarks on WorkKeys or ASVAB and KOSSA or an Industry Certification.
  • Foundations of Energy Course

    This course is an outgrowth of the “The Big Picture” which identified major components of energy education needed by secondary students. The Foundations of Energy course was developed as an introductory course in Career and Technical Education for grades nine or ten. Content material is organized by units/modules and may be structured as a stand-alone course (semester/year) or may be integrated in other career pathways such as engineering/technology, construction, and manufacturing technology. It also could be utilized in conjunction with the science curriculum.
  • High Schools That Work

    High Schools That Work is a comprehensive, results-based school improvement initiative of the Southern Regional Education Board in cooperation with State Departments of Education.  This initiative provides a framework of goals, key practices, and key conditions, which is designed to blend the essential content of traditional-college preparatory studies with quality career/technical studies to raise student achievement.  The goals include raising the reading, mathematics, science, and technical achievement of more students to the national average and above.
     
  • Leadership Dynamics

    The curriculum for the Leadership Dynamics course has been developed as a separate course for high school students or to be included as a component of the various Career Pathways in Career and Technical Education. The objective of the course is to assist students in preparing for leadership roles during and beyond high school.
  • TRACK: Tech Ready Apprentices for Careers in Kentucky

     

    TRACK’s First Year Deemed Successful as Plans to Expand Move Forward

    An agreement between the Kentucky Department of Education and global human resource agency Adecco will pabe the way for Kentucky high school students to gain valuable work experience through cooperative education opportunities and pre-apprenticeship programs. (Read More)

  • Work-Based Learning Manual

    The Work-Based Learning Manual provides information on the various types of work-based learning experiences such as cooperative education, entrepreneurial program, internship, mentoring, school-based enterprises, service learning and shadowing.  Information also includes an overview of legal issues and guidelines for implementing the various types of work-based learning.
     

The 16 Career Clusters
One of the keys to improving student achievement is providing students with relevant contexts for studying and learning. Career Clusters™ do exactly this by linking school-based learning with the knowledge and skills required for success in the workplace. The National Career Clusters™ Framework is comprised of 16 Career Clusters™ and related Career Pathways to help students of all ages explore different career options and better prepare for college and career.
