Program Assessment Overview
The KY Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE) was designated to manage program assessment for secondary career and technical education (CTE) programs by a 2000 legislative initiative. The stakeholders developed a process and a 21-standard document (later revised to 17 standards) by which to assess the CTE programs. The document has been revised every two years to begin a new 2-year cycle of assessment team visits. During each 2-year cycle approximately 95 schools and 520 programs are visited.
The findings of the assessment teams are entered into a database and are (1) shared with the schools for their use in developing program and school continuous improvement plans; (2) the major support for SACS accreditation; (3) used for the development of the OCTE district continuous improvement plan and (4) used to provide professional development for teachers and administrators.
