Time to Collect Data on Each District’s Certified Personnel Evaluation System (Attachment)

It is time to update the information KDE annually collects and reports about each district’s certified personnel evaluation system and the results of the districts’ teacher and principal evaluations. Please remember we will only be reporting aggregated results.  Your certified personnel evaluation staff will be contacted to get this information reported and we wanted you to know that it will be coming to them.

KDE will collect this information in much the same way as in last year’s collection, but there are some important differences this year.  Districts will be required to report the total numbers of teachers employed per school and principals employed per district, but the evaluation results data to be included should only include those personnel actually evaluated during the 2010-2011 school yearThis is different from last year’s collection, where results were collected on all teachers in the building based on the most recent evaluation on file.

Attached is the information that will be sent to your certified personnel evaluation staff, along with the link below, which will direct them to the survey used for the collection.  We are asking that the survey and spreadsheet be completed and returned by Friday, February 17, 2012.  We appreciate your assistance in asking your certified personnel evaluation staff to complete this task.

ARRA Jobs Reporting Reminder – Report due on job estimates relative to ARRA grants; Due date for submission, Friday, January 6, 2012 (Attachment)

The ARRA Jobs Estimate report is available through the web application at http://apps.kde.state.ky.us/login/ and will open on December 27, 2011.  The December 2009 OMB ARRA Jobs Guidance from the federal government and the ARRA Jobs Web Application instructions are also attachedThe report is a requirement of receipt of ARRA funds.

Each district must complete a report for jobs created/retained relative to each ARRA grant received from KDE.  Each district will be reporting for the quarter of October 2011-Decmber 2011.  The formula for calculating jobs created/retained is:

Total number of quarter hours worked in jobs funded with ARRA funds = Number of FTEs for quarter
Total quarter hours in a full-time schedule

MUNIS project numbers 5600A and 5600B should be reported under MUNIS project number 5600.

Also, if the district has made a single purchase of $25,000 or more, please complete the 1512 Vendor Reporting spreadsheet (attached) and email to arrajobs@education.ky.gov by the reporting deadline.

The reports must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. (EST) on Friday, January 6, 2012.  Any reports not completed by this time will result in withholding of ARRA funds until the reports are complete.  All reports must have a sign-off.  For grants that the district did not receive or funds that have not been expended, please sign-off on the blank report.

KDE to Participate in the Green Ribbon Schools Program

In November, the Kentucky Department of Education announced to the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) our intent to participate in this pilot year of the Green Ribbon Schools (GRS) Program.  This award recognizes the highest performing green and healthy schools in the nation.  It is the first comprehensive federal policy by the USDOE recognizing exemplary achievement in environmental impact, health, and education.  High standards of nutrition, fitness, and outdoor time for both students and staff are among the qualifying criteria for the award.  A key partner in this endeavor with the USDOE is the Campaign for Environmental Literacy.

All of Kentucky’s public school districts are invited to participate with a maximum of one school submission per district.  It is a two-step process.  The first step will be to complete and submit an application to KDE to demonstrate your school’s progress toward the goals of each of the three GRS Pillars.  Schools are not expected to be at 100% (total proficiency) for all of these elements, but need to demonstrate how they are working toward each of these goals.

       I.          Net zero environmental impact

Element 1A:

Zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions

Element 1B:

Improved water quality, efficiency, and conservation

Element 1C:

Reduced waste production

Element 1D:

Use of alternative transportation to, during, and from school

II.          Net positive impact on health of students and staff

Element 2A:

An integrated school environmental health program

Element 2B:

High standards of nutrition, fitness, and quantity of quality outdoor time

100% of high school graduates are environmentally and sustainability literate

Element 3A:

Interdisciplinary learning about the key relationships between dynamic environmental, energy and human systems

Element 3B:

Use of the environment and sustainability to develop STEM content knowledge, and thinking skills

Element 3C:

Development and application of civic engagement knowledge and skills

Participation in Green Schools Program and/or Awards for Environmental and Sustainability Efforts will also be considered in the scoring.

A team of representatives from Kentucky agencies and programs dedicated to greener schools will evaluate the applications.  If selected as one of the three state nominees, your school will be asked to complete the second step by providing additional information for the USDOE nomination package.
