Last Updated on Tuesday, April 03, 2012 at 8:33 AM

The Unbridled Learning Summit was held on April 12, 2010, in Louisville. University faculty, deans of education, school district representatives and stakeholder partners participated in this major event.  Dr. Holliday, Dr. Robert King (Council on Postsecondary Education and Dr. Phil Rogers (Education Professional Standards Board) provided welcoming remarks; and Chris Minnich from the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) gave an overview of the common core standards work (national context about process and KY connection).  The Common Core standards will be the foundation for reform efforts in Kentucky and next steps will include more in-depth emphasis on teaching and learning at the classroom level with specific strategies of support.  Rick Stiggins from the Assessment Training Institute (ATI) shared the role and responsibility of leaders and professional learning teams.  Governor Steve Beshear spoke at lunch and breakout sessions were provided in the afternoon.  A major focus for the summit was to provide the scope of work and deployment plan for standards (district expectations, networks focus and facilitating learning in school districts).
