DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the administrative direction of the Associate Commissioner, Office of Special Instructional Services (OSIS) and the Director of Blind/Visually Impaired and Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Services, the Principal will provide instructional leadership, manage and supervise instructional services which incorporates all modalities of communication for P-12. This includes instructional program and curriculum development and implementation for deaf and hard of hearing students, and assignment of students, staff, instructional facilities, and equipment in alignment with the expectation of the Kentucky Board of Education.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of all certified and non-certified staff.
Coordinate instructional and curriculum development activities and coordinate school activities with related agencies such as colleges and universities (teacher training programs); career and technical education and vocational rehabilitation.
Oversee the student development program staff in program development and implementation.
Coordinate extra-curricular programs and extended classroom instruction in cooperation with the student Development Supervisor.
Assist in training of instructional staff.
Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures.
Participate in budget development and submit reports.
Attend school meetings and other meetings, special events, and school-sponsored programs representing the school, work with parents/families, community groups and other education partners.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s Degree including training and School Administration and training or experience in deaf education or supplemented with a minimum of five years of professional/supervisory experience. Additionally, it is desirable that the candidate hold a Rank I, valid certification in P-12 Instructional Leadership, and have demonstrated experience in innovative educational programming. The preferred candidate will possess fluency in American Sign Language interacting with deaf and hard of hearing individuals or willingness to become proficient in Sign Language.

Salary Range: The salary range is per year, depending on education and experience.

This 12-month position is not subject to restrictions under KRS Chapter 18A.
In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Kentucky Teacher’s Retirement System.
