(FRANKFORT, Ky.) -- Nearly 800 Kentucky students will participate in the Jobs for Kentucky's Graduates (JKG) Career Development Competition, set for March 31 and April 1 at the Holiday Inn/North in Lexington.
The competition will give eligible students opportunities to apply real-world knowledge to career scenarios. Students will compete in various events, such as resume writing, phone interviews, interpersonal communications and more.
The goal of the competition is to improve interpersonal, scholastic and employment skills so that students will remain in school, graduate and secure gainful employment or move on to further education endeavors.
Kentucky Education Commissioner Gene Wilhoit will provide opening remarks at the competition on March 31.
JKG, an affiliate of the Jobs for America's Graduates program, is designed to help at-risk and disadvantaged young people graduate from high school and obtain sustained employment. Since 1993, JKG has helped students gain competency in career development, job attainment, job survival, basic skills, personal skills and leadership and self-development. Approximately 2,000 Kentucky students are involved in the program statewide.
