(FRANKFORT, Ky.) -- Linda Powell France, superintendent of the Jessamine County School District, will be the Kentucky Department of Education's deputy commissioner for the Bureau of Learning and Results Services.
"I know that Linda will be a valuable addition to our leadership team," said Kentucky Education Commissioner Gene Wilhoit. "Her responsibilities here are crucial to the success of Kentucky's public schools. She has prepared herself well for these challenges, and I'm confident she will provide outstanding leadership."
Since 1998, France has led the Jessamine County school system, which includes 11 schools serving nearly 6,900 students. Prior to that, she served as assistant superintendent, assistant principal, guidance counselor and English teacher in the system and in Fayette County.
France earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Kentucky and a Rank I certification, educational administration certification and superintendent certification from Eastern Kentucky University.
She is a member of the Kentucky Association for School Administrators, the National Association for School Administrators and Phi Delta Kappa International.
France's responsibilities at the Department of Education will include oversight of six offices: District Support Services, Education Technology, Academic and Professional Development, Assessment and Accountability, Leadership and School Improvement and Special Instructional Services. She will guide the offices as they provide services in finance, facilities, technology, professional development, curriculum, early childhood, assessment, school-based decision making, exceptional children, federal programs and career and technical education.
France will begin her new duties on July 1. She replaces Lois Adams-Rodgers, who will join the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) in a leadership position later this year.
