(FRANKFORT, Ky.) -- Governor Paul Patton will proclaim October as Kentucky Teacher Quality and Recruitment Month, emphasizing the importance of encouraging young Kentuckians to consider teaching as a profession.
The proclamation is part of a group of teacher recruitment activities taking place in October, including the signing of the 2+2 Articulation Agreement between the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and the state's eight four-year higher education institutions.
That event will occur at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, and will be part of the kick-off activities for the Future Educators of America (FEA) State Conference. The signing and the conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Louisville.
University presidents and deans of education will be on hand for the signing. A news conference will be held at that time.
The 2+2 agreement enables aspiring teachers enrolled in the KCTCS system to seamlessly transfer credit hours to four-year institutions, where they may complete teacher education requirements, graduate, become certified and teach in Kentucky.
Other teacher quality and recruitment activities in October include:
- Kentucky Teacher Forum, October 24-26 in Louisville
- Teacher Quality Summit III, held October 9-10 at the Perkins Building on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University
In July, a group of Kentucky's four-year higher education institutions signed a Dual Credit Agreement, which allows senior high school students to take select college education courses during their senior years, then transfer the class for credit to one of the participating state institutions.
