(FRANKFORT, Ky.) -- The 2005 Kentucky Teachers of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, November 16, during a special ceremony in the state Capitol Rotunda. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Governor Ernie Fletcher, Education Cabinet Secretary Virginia Fox, Education Commissioner Gene Wilhoit and Ashland Inc. Chairman and CEO Jim O'Brien will be on hand to congratulate the Kentucky Elementary, Middle and High School Teachers of the Year and announce the overall 2005 Kentucky Teacher of the Year.
The winners of the 2005 Ashland Inc. Teacher Achievement Awards also will be recognized during the ceremony. The 17 award winners will receive a cash gift of $500; two of the three finalists for the Teacher of the Year will receive a cash gift of $3,000, and the Teacher of the Year will receive a cash prize of $10,000, along with an exciting professional development opportunity.
The 2005 Teacher Achievement Award winners were announced in mid-September. Since 1988, Ashland Inc. has recognized outstanding Kentucky teachers through its Teacher Achievement Awards Program, awarding nearly $475,000 to some 220 teachers of grades K through 12.
The Kentucky Teacher Awards program combines the best elements of the Ashland Inc. Teacher Achievement Awards and the Kentucky Teacher of the Year programs. This marks the fourth year that the Department of Education and Ashland Inc. have joined together to honor Kentucky educators.
