(FRANKFORT, Ky.) -- Prospective teachers are invited to attend Future Educators of America (FEA) Summer Camps, scheduled to be held in various locations across the state in June.
A collaborative effort between the Kentucky Department of Education and the state's eight public universities, the FEA Summer Camps are free, week-long events designed to enhance participants' understanding of teaching as a profession, strengthen their leadership and decision-making skills and make them comfortable with college life and the process for entering college. The camps are in response to the needs of school districts as they work to staff schools with high-quality, dedicated and diverse teachers.
Camps were held this week at Eastern Kentucky University and Kentucky State University. Upcoming camps are set for other state public universities.

Future Educators of America is a national program for middle and high school students interested in exploring careers in education. FEA is administered by Phi Delta Kappa International, the professional education association.
Over the past few years, FEA chapters have grown significantly in the state of Kentucky, with more than 2,000 members in 225 clubs. The state now leads the nation in the most chartered FEA chapters, due in large part to the state's recruitment effort to “Grow Your Own” teachers for the future.
