(FRANKFORT, Ky.) -- The Kentucky Department of Education is seeking dedicated teachers, administrators and other certified staff to serve as Highly Skilled Educators (HSEs) in the state's assistance program for schools.
Approximately 20 individuals will be selected to participate in the program for 2006-07. The HSE program places educators in schools that do not meet their goals in the statewide assessment and accountability system. HSEs act as consultants, working with school staffs to improve teaching and learning by using the state’s Standards and Indicators for School Improvement. Each educator will undergo extensive training before and during his or her participation in the program. Most HSEs serve for two years, but their contracts may be extended for a maximum of three years.
The HSE program provides opportunities to complete leadership certification through a joint venture with the University of Kentucky. HSEs may earn certifications in principalship, instructional supervision and superintendency. After HSEs exit the program, they are encouraged to return to local school districts in leadership roles to assist schools in improving student achievement as they close achievement gaps and reach proficiency.
The deadline for applications is October 31. Applications can be found on the Department of Education's Web site here. Interested applicants also may call (502) 564-2116 for more information.
