(FRANKFORT, Ky.) -- Gov. Ernie Fletcher will sign a proclamation declaring that November is Unite to Read Month in Kentucky.
The signing will take place Monday, November 14, at 9:45 a.m. in Room 110 of the state Capitol building.
Unite to Read is a statewide project designed by Kentucky's Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs). The goal is to bring schools' and districts' student organizations together to promote literacy and lifelong learning.
Activities in the 2005-06 Unite to Read project include:
- Share a Story night -- Elementary schools schedule a reading of Click Clack Moo, Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin and provide literacy-related activities for students and community members.
- Reading contests -- High school students receive certificates based on the number of books they read over a given time period. Students also are eligible for statewide prizes.
Unite to Read participants include:
- the Kentucky Department of Education's Division of Career & Technical Education
- the state Office of Career and Technical Education
- the Kentucky Council on Economic Education
- Kentucky Educational Television (KET) and its Ready to Learn project
- 50,000 middle and high school members of CTSOs

- Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
- Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
- DECA
- Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)
- Technology Student Association (TSA)
- Skills USA
