News Release 06-025 -- May 22, 2006

(FRANKFORT, Ky.) -- Due to a printing error, some School Report Cards that were sent recently to parents of Kentucky high school students may contain data that is incorrect.

The data for weapons violations and graduation rates may have been transposed on some copies of the School Report Cards, and the state graduation rate field may be blank. The problems affect only high school report cards and may be limited to a small group of school districts.

To date, the list of affected schools includes Apollo High in Daviess County; Edmonson County High; Estill County High; Grant County High; and Franklin County High.

The School Report Cards are mailed to parents of Kentucky’s public school students each year. The documents provide information about test scores, teacher qualifications, safety issues, awards and other data about schools. The School Report Cards do not report individual student achievement.

The Kentucky Department of Education is working with Miami Systems of Cincinnati, Ohio, to determine the extent of the problem. Miami Systems holds the contract for printing the School Report Cards and also prepares them for mailing. Corrections will be mailed to parents in affected schools.

Correct, electronic copies of the School Report Cards currently are available through the department’s Web site here.
