(FRANKFORT, Ky.) –Four Kentucky public schools have been named 2006 No Child Left Behind (NCLB) - Blue Ribbon Schools.
The four are:
- Field Elementary, Jefferson Co.
- Hanson Elementary, Hopkins Co.
- Mason-Corinth Elementary, Grant Co.
- Summer Shade Elementary, Metcalfe Co.
Nationwide, nearly 300 schools will be honored with NCLB - Blue Ribbon Schools awards, which recognize public and private P-12 schools that are either academically superior in their states or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement.
The program requires schools to meet either of two assessment criteria. It recognizes schools that have at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that dramatically improve student performance in reading and mathematics over the last three years in accordance with state assessment systems; and it rewards schools that score in the top 10 percent statewide in reading and mathematics on state assessments. Schools also must make adequate yearly progress under the requirements of the federal NCLB Act.
Representatives from each school will attend a recognition ceremony November 9-10 in Washington, D.C.
