All teachers face problems to some degree from encounters with difficult students, which may lead to loss of control in the classroom. Other misbehaviors may not be to this extreme, but they do, however, disrupt the classroom and detract from the learning process. These problems are not unique to one teacher or one school; several specific behaviors appear to be common, reoccurring behaviors that many teachers face on a regular basis. Likewise, "punishments" and other strategies provide a means for modifying these behaviors so the classroom becomes a positive learning environment rather than a tug-of-war between teacher and student with these distractions hindering the learning process. This page will address common behaviors teachers in our State are experiencing and strategies they have found to be effective in modifying these behaviors.
