Community Education provides the necessary leadership to address learning opportunities for persons of all ages and needs, expand utilization of schools and other public facilities, engage citizens in planning and problem solving activities that address school/community concerns, and acquire more effective school/community/family partnerships. Community Education is an opportunity to rediscover community.

Community Education Grants
Based upon funding allocations awarded by the General Assembly, $20,000 grants requiring a 25% cash match are available to school districts for the purpose of employing a full time community education director.

Community Education Components
Community Education is a powerful concept that acknowledges learning is dynamic and changing, occurs in many forms, and is a lifelong requirement for human development. It is a way of thinking about and organizing public schools for individual and community development.

Kentucky Community Education Association (KCEA)
The KCEA believes that the community education concept offers a creative approach to individual and community development. We believe effective community education programs result from close cooperation among all segments of the community and we affirm the belief that citizens have the right and obligation to be involved in the decision making processes that affect their well-being.

National Community Education Association (NCEA)
NCEA's mission is to provide leadership to those who build learning communities in response to individual and community needs.  It does this by providing its members with national and regional training conferences and workshops; specialized periodicals, publications, and products; opportunities for peer support and networking; and information and referral services. In addition it acts as an advocate for community education by working with related organizations and promoting at the national, state, and local levels.

21st Century Community Learning Centers
The focus of this program, re-authorized under Title IV, Part B, of the No Child Left Behind Act, is to provide expanded academic enrichment opportunities for children attending low performing schools. Tutorial services and academic enrichment activities are designed to help students meet local and state academic standards in subjects such as reading and math. In addition 21st CCLC programs provide youth development activities, drug and violence prevention programs, technology education programs, art, music and recreation programs, counseling and character education to enhance the academic component of the program.

Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth
The mission of Healthy Communities - Healthy Youth is to motivate and equip individuals, organizations, and their leaders to join together in nurturing competent, caring, and responsible children and adolescents. To accomplish this, Search Institute will provide or assist with research, evaluation, resource materials, training, technical assistance, and networking opportunities based on the institute's framework of developmental assets.

National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education (NCPIE)
At NCPIE, our mission is simple: to advocate the involvement of parents and families in their children's education, and to foster relationships between home, school, and community to enhance the education of all our nation's young people.

National PTA
National PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the United States. A not-for-profit association of parents, educators, students, and other citizens active in their schools and communities, PTA is a leader in reminding our nation of its obligations to children.
