Eat Right, Feel Right Primary Standards-Based Unit of Study

Overview: In this unit, you will learn how to make positive food choices from the food guide pyramid. This skill will contribute to the development of a healthy lifestyle.

Academic Expectation:

 

2.31        Students demonstrate the knowledge and skills they need to remain physically healthy and to accept

              responsibility for their own physical well-being.

 

Essential Content

·        Basic food groups according to the food guide pyramid

·        Healthy snack foods

·        Role of nutritious foods on the growth of healthy bodies

 

Organizer:

                        Eat right, feel right.

 

Essential Questions:

 

·        How do foods from the basic food groups make a healthier me?

·        How can I make healthy snack choices?

 

Culminating Project

 

The class will be organized into five groups. As a group member, you will help develop a classroom cookbook of heart-healthy snack foods. With help from your teacher and group members, talk with your friends, family, and school staff members to determine their favorite heart-healthy snack foods and recipes. Take or create pictures of these snacks for illustration purposes. Identify to which food group the snack foods belongs.
