This professional development opportunity will cover best practices for working with English Language Learners (ELLs), including Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP). The SIOP model enables mainstream teachers to make content comprehensible to ELLs, while promoting their English language development. The ELLA is a cooperative effort with Kentucky’s four Migrant Regions (A, B, C and D), Appalachia Regional Comprehensive Center (ARCC) and Kentucky Department of Education’s Title III – LEP/Immigrant Program. Eight trained Kentucky educators, four Migrant Regional Coordinators and KDE’s Title III staff will work closely with teachers and administrators.
