Proposed Social Studies Standards for the Next Generation Delayed Pending Further Review
The proposed Social Studies Standards for the Next Generation are on hold. During their creation, the standards underwent revision based on the input and feedback received from more than 2,000 people involved in focus groups, open online surveys and feedback captured during the Social Studies Leadership Networks. These future-oriented standards present the opportunity to transform social studies education in Kentucky.
Please note that until new standards are adopted by the Kentucky Board of Education, schools are required to use the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) as the basis of their curricula and instruction. Importantly, all social studies teachers should be implementing the Literacy in History/Social Studies Standards which are included in KAS and are consistent with the DRAFT Social Studies Standards.
End of Course exams for the past several years have been provided through a contract with ACT Quality Core. At the end of the 2016-2017 school year, Quality Core will no longer offer the End of Course Exams. Once decisions around the transition are made KDE's Office of Assessment and Accountability will share information around the assessments with district assessment staff.
