The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Next-Generation Learners, Division of Learning Services, Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) has an opening for an Outreach Teacher. This position will serve the Central Kentucky and South East South Central Educational Cooperatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide statewide consultation and technical assistance to LEA's and parents in regards to serving students with visual impairments, including students with multiple impairments. This may include, but not limited to on-site observations, recommendations for curricular materials and instructional methods, assessment and IEP development.
Facilitate referrals according to established procedures to provide technical assistance for students, parents, LEA's.
Assist with the recruitment of highly qualified teachers of the Blind/Visually Impaired.
Mentor/coach Teachers of Blind/Visually Impaired.
Participate in ARC meetings, as requested by districts, to assist in educational planning and service delivery.
Provide guidance to districts, teachers and parents on issues relating to students with visual impairments.
Develop and facilitate collaborative activities to support regional services within the Special Education Cooperative network.
Facilitate Quality Programs for Students who are Blind/Visually Impaired (QPVI), and/or coordinate teacher networking opportunities.
Develop and disseminate resource information, respond to questions and refer appropriately to other agencies.
Coordinate and provide relevant professional development, workshops, trainings, etc. following established KDE standards.
Serve on statewide, regional or special education cooperative cadres as it relates to students who are Blind/Visually Impaired.
Mentor teachers in university training programs, as requested.
Collaborate on child find, student data collection, review student and district records as related to students who are blind/ visually impaired Perform other duties as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Applicants must possess certification to teach students who are Blind/Visually Impaired. A minimum of three years experience in teaching students who are Blind/Visually Impaired is preferred.
In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System.
2013-14 Salary: Dependent upon qualifications, training, and experience.
