Let’s TALK: Conversations about Effective Teaching Conference
The Kentucky Department of Education and the Kentucky Education Association are co-sponsoring Let’s TALK: Conversations about Effective Teaching, June 19-21, 2013, at the Crowne Plaza, Louisville. Teachers will share from their own experiences in the Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC), Math Design Collaborative (MDC) and other methods used to teach the Kentucky Core Academic Standards. Educators also will share from their direct experiences in the field testing of Kentucky’s new Professional Growth and Effectiveness System (PGES).CIITS Roles Attachment.docApril 2013

Upcoming Twitter Town Hall - The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) invites teachers, administrators, district staff, parents and other education stakeholders to submit questions for Commissioner Terry Holliday's second Twitter Town Hall Wednesday, June 20, 4-5 p.m. ET. Questions can be tweeted both before June 20 and during the live event from 4-5 p.m. ET. Use the hash tag #AskDocH to send questions.
On Friday, March 30 at 10 a.m. ET, the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and SchoolNet will host a webcast to discuss Continuous Instructional Improvement Technology System (CIITS) Roles and Permissions.
The U.S. Department of Education (USED) announced on February 9 that Kentucky’s application for flexibility under ESEA/NCLB has been approved.
Kentucky’s ESEA Waiver Request
Over the past few weeks, a Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) team has worked to respond to some of the concerns highlighted by U.S. Department of Education reviewers in our original Elementary and Secondary Education Act/No Child Left Behind waiver submission.
The next ISN webcast is scheduled for January 20, 2012, from 10 to 11 a.m. ET. The topics for discussion will be the NCLB waiver, standards implementation, Program Reviews, CIITS and assessment and student growth information.
There will be NO ISN webcast for the month of October. Please take some time to view the Commissioner’s most recent Superintendents’ Webcast which focused on Kentucky’s NCLB waiver request. The most recent webcast will be forwarded as soon as it becomes available.
The next ISN webcast is scheduled for October 10 at 1:30pm EST . The topics to be discussed include accountability, ISLN, Operation Preparation, science standards and a Kentucky Board of Education Update.

Webcast - The next ISN webcast is scheduled for Friday, February 25, 3:30pm EST. More information about the topics for this webcast will be forthcoming. Senate Bill 1 (2009) Update - Standards - KDE staff had a conversation with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) standards writers on January 13, and the attached document contains the notes from that conversation.

Webcasts - The December webcast has been archived. This was a joint webcast with David Couch, associate commissioner of the Office of Knowledge, Information and Data Systems (KIDS). The goal of this joint webcast was to strengthen the collaboration efforts between district technology coordinators and instructional supervisors.

Upcoming Webcasts - Education Commissioner Terry Holliday will be hosting a webcast for superintendents on Monday, September 20 at 9:30 ET. Instructional supervisors are invited to participate. The webcast will cover the EduJobs funding, superintendent professional development for Senate Bill 1 (SB 1) implementation, recent budget cuts, SB 1 and the Kentucky Board of Education’s strategic plan, and the release of data from the Kentucky Statewide Longitudinal Data System (KSLDS) on September 23. Information on how to link to the webcast and the PowerPoint will be sent to you as soon as possible.

Senate Bill 1 Update, Kentucky Core Academic Standards: During the 2010-11 academic year, schools and districts will begin to implement the Kentucky Core Academic Standards for mathematics and English/language arts. In order to assist with the transition to these standards, the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has produced a crosswalk resource that will present the alignment of the Common Core State Standards, which were used to develop the Kentucky Core Academic Standards, and the current Kentucky standards found in the Program of Studies. While developing this crosswalk, KDE staff members used a tool and process designed by Achieve, Inc. This crosswalk matrix will benefit educators by presenting the standards alignment along with the strength of the alignment.
