PGES Professional Learning

The Kentucky Department of Education is offering various forms of professional learning opportunities for educators to increase their knowledge of the Professional Growth and Effectiveness System (PGES) as Kentucky prepares for the PGES state wide pilot in 2013-2014. Meaningful professional learning opportunities are available in a variety of ways, are "just in time" and are geared toward individual needs.

Year-At-A-Glance Calendars provide superintendents, principals and teachers an overview of monthly tasks to begin to put in place the Professional Growth & Effectiveness statewide pilot. These individual tasks are designed for each role to support the overall systems change necessary at the school and district. The Year At a Glance calendars enable educators to identify and plan professional learning necessary to ensure successful implementation of the Professional Growth & Effectiveness System. Archived Lync Sessions
are available for educators to participate in Professional Learning and increase their knowledge of the Professional Growth and Effectiveness System (PGES). They are designed to be useful to both educators who are just beginning to understand the PGES as well as those who want to deepen their understanding. They provide educators a foundational knowledge of the Kentucky Framework for Teaching, its domains, and components. Educators will learn how PGES and its multiple measures are integrated with the Framework.

Professional Learning for Peer Observers is available to educators. Developed in partnership with Kentucky Educational Television (KET) this self-paced module prepares teachers to become effective peer observers in Kentucky’s Professional Growth and Effectiveness System (PGES).

Users may register for this module in CIITS using this instruction sheet to guide oneself through the process.

Digging Deeper into the Framework
This module takes participants into an analysis of component 3b, Questioning and Discussion Techniques, within domain 3 Instruction.  Participants look at each element closely to understand what each means to instructional practice.  This process can be applied to "dig deeper" into the components in the Kentucky Framework for Teaching.  Be sure to view this module with a small group or a partner.
