The Kentucky Online Testing (KYOTE) placement testing system provides free online placement exams that measure preparedness for college level learning in mathematics, reading and writing.
These exams are accepted at all Kentucky public colleges and universities.
Kentucky is currently in a transition phase from one accountability model to another. KYOTE has been removed from the new model, except for local use. Schools may continue to administer the KYOTE exams to allow students to enroll in dual credit courses or for other local needs.
Senate Bill 1 in 2017 changed accountability to use a college entrance exam and not a college placement exam. KYOTE will not be used in accountability beginning in the 2017-18 school year.
Transition Readiness has replaced the College and/or Career Readiness from the old system. Expect more details around the new model as the year progresses.
Transition to College Mathematics
is a free online textbook written to support Kentucky’s college readiness program. The KYOTE college readiness math and college algebra placement exam standards discussed in each section are clearly identified to help teachers deliver targeted interventions with the assurance that all placement exam content is covered. The exercises are also offered in Microsoft Word so that teachers can easily use them to build their own customized assignments and formative assessments. Spiral-bound hard copies of the text can be ordered through the website for $7.00 per copy plus shipping.
