Purpose: The council provides advice and counsel to the commissioner about topics of interest to parents, such as ways that parents and communities can assist schools in ensuring that the achievement level is raised for all schools and every student. The council is not statutorily required.
Membership: PAC membership is comprised of 18 members. Members serve 4-year terms. Parents and organizations are selected through the KDE Community and Partner Engagement Branch. Districts represented on the council will rotate every two years. If a member is unable to complete a 4-year term, a new member/organization will be selected and complete the term.
Executive directors of the Prichard Committee, the Kentucky Association of School Councils and the Kentucky Parent Teacher Association serve on the council by commissioner appointment. Each director is allowed to select one additional member to serve on the council. These members will serve 4-year terms.
Current members are eligible for re-appointment every four years.
The Missing Piece of the Proficiency Puzzle is a document that can be used by parents to support high student achievement and closing gaps in their schools.
