Town Hall Meetings

2018 Town Hall Meetings

Published: 4/16/2018 3:03 PM
Each year, Commissioner Stephen Pruitt conducts a series of Town Hall Meetings across the state to listen to what educators, parents, students and community members think about a certain topic. This feedback is invaluable as Commissioner Pruitt and the Kentucky Department of Education work to improve the education and readiness of Kentucky's students.

In 2018, the Town Hall Sessions will focus on high school graduation requirements. These requirements exist, in part, to require students to take challenging courses that will prepare them for life after high school and to hold schools accountable for graduating students who are college- and career-ready. The administrative regulation spelling out Kentucky’s graduation requirements was last revised in 2013 with the addition of early graduation requirements. It is time to make potential updates to the graduation requirements to ensure our students are as prepared as they can be to enter the next phase of their lives.

In advance of the meeting, participants are asked to consider the following question: “What should high school graduates be able to know, do and experience to be ready for postsecondary education and/or a career?”
