On Dec. 12, 2019, the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) authorized the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) to issue a solicitation for a national search firm that could begin a search for a permanent commissioner of education. The firm is expected to be selected in mid-February. The board hopes to have a new commissioner in place by July 1, 2020.
