The Kentucky Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Early Learning, Division of State Schools, Kentucky School for the Blind in Louisville, Kentucky (Jefferson County) has two openings for an Orientation and Mobility teacher.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in the diagnostic and Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, evaluate students in the areas of orientation and mobility.
Provide training and direct instruction in orientation and mobility techniques and in the use of orientation and mobility materials and devices including visual efficiency skills, utilization of residual vision, concept and sensory development, spatial orientation, familiarization to environments, and utilization of tactile, visual, and auditory maps.
Train students on the necessary skills, which enable them to navigate familiar and unfamiliar environments, including retail stores, offices, and public transportation, train students on self-advocacy and how to handle emergencies.
Collaborate with teachers and assist in the development and implementation of the IEP as it relates to orientation and mobility services, work with teachers of the visually impaired to conduct functional vision assessments as it relates to independent travel.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university. A valid Kentucky Professional Teaching Certificate, or a similar license from another state, and a valid Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist certificate from ACVREP.
Applicants and employees in this classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check.
In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Teachers' Retirement System.
Salary: Dependent upon qualifications, training, and experience. This is a 187-day contracted position. KSB follows the JCPS 2022-23 Salary Schedule/Rank and Step.
