Career and Technical Education programs are planned course sequences of high quality academic core content and technical skills, which focus on a specific career cluster and prepare students to successfully transition toward their career goal.
General Program Standards for Secondary Career and Technical Education Programs
NECESSITY, FUNCTION, AND CONFORMITY: KRS 151B.025(5) requires the Kentucky Board of Education to establish program standards for secondary area vocational education and technology centers. This administrative regulation establishes standards for secondary career and technical education programs in local school districts and area centers essential for compliance with the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998, 20 USC 2301-2471.
CTE Pathway Alignments
The Office of Career and Technical Education and Student Transition, working with Kentucky postsecondary institutions to develop example pathway alignments leading to industry certifications, certificates, diplomas and/or degrees aligned to state in-demand industry sectors and support occupations. In planning secondary to postsecondary programs of study, local school districts and partnering postsecondary institutions shall work together to ensure programs of study are aligned and implemented to meet the specialized needs of business and industry and meet the goals of the student's individual learning plan.
