The Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE) collaborates with the Office of Special Education and Early Learning (OSEEL) to ensure we have strategies that help us uphold  our Mission for all students. We encourage all leadership and staff to do the same.

Exceptional Children include Special Needs, English Learners, Gifted and Talented, Blind - VI and Deaf - HH students. For specific information and strategies for working with these and other students, please refer to our Exceptional Children website.

Career Readiness Opportunity for Alternate Diploma Course of Study and Alternate Assessment – CWEC and ESAR

The Career Work Experience Certification (CWEC) and the Employability Skills Attainment Record (ESAR) are two of four components of the Kentucky Alternate Assessment. Both were developed for students with significant cognitive disabilities in an alternate course of study and working toward the alternate high school diploma. Both are designed to provide a career readiness measure within the Postsecondary Readiness indicator of Kentucky's accountability system.

The CWEC consists of four specific elective courses focused on the Employability and Foundational Academic Standards-Alternate Assessment (EFAS-AA) and incorporates work-based learning opportunities. The ESAR uses a rating scale to assess student demonstration of skills linked to the EFAS-AA. Eligible students who complete the CWEC four course sequence and meet benchmark on the ESAR are career ready within the Postsecondary Readiness component of Kentucky's accountability system.
