Rhonda
L. Sims is associate commissioner in the Kentucky Department of Education’s
(KDE’s) Office of Assessment and Accountability (OAA). She first joined KDE in
August 1994 as a social studies consultant in the assessment development area.
Sims is a native of
Casey County. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in history and
political science with a teaching certification in grades 1-12 from
Campbellsville University. She later earned a master’s degree in public
administration from Western Kentucky University and her Rank 1 certification
from EKU.
Prior
to joining KDE, Sims was a high school social studies teacher at Model
Laboratory School, President of the Kentucky Council for Social Studies, and
Assistant Professor at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU). In July 2010, the
Kentucky Association of School Administrators presented her with the William T.
Nallia Educational Leadership Award for her significant contribution to the
quality of public education in Kentucky.
