Purpose
The Principals Advisory Council (PrAC) provides direct input to Kentucky’s
Commissioner of Education about important issues in Kentucky schools. The council allows for discussion and feedback from the field about topics that will lead to the improvement of Kentucky public schools and the opportunities they afford students. The goal of the council is to ensure excellent teaching and learning is happening in every classroom in every Kentucky school.
Membership
The Principal Advisory Council (PrAC) consists of approximately seventeen (17) active principals who contribute crucial, diverse perspectives on education from across the Commonwealth. Four (4) quarterly meetings take place each year. Members are required to attend at least three of the four meetings to remain an active member of the PrAC.
The Office of Educational Licensure and Effectiveness coordinates the application process from a pool of interested candidates. Principals are selected and appointed to the PrAC for three-year terms. Additionally, one principal from the
Kentucky School for the Blind and one principal from the
Kentucky School for the Deaf are appointed and may serve consecutive terms. Membership is prioritized to ensure voices from various grade bands, district sizes, and regional areas are represented on the council.
