Student Ex-officio Member
Ronald (R.J.) Osborne is the third student to serve as an ex-officio member on the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE). The student member of the KBE is non-voting, but serves as a voice for the students of Kentucky in the board's decisions.
Osborne is a junior from Whitley County High School and a member of the Kentucky Commissioner's Student Advisory Council, where he and 37 other Kentucky students advise the state Commissioner of Education on issues facing high school students today.
He also is a student-athlete and participates in Future Farmers of America (FFA).
The son of an educator, Osborne wants to ensure that every school district is producing graduates who are equipped to enter the workforce or are prepared to be academically successful in post-secondary education.
Osborne also wants to have a better understanding of how educational priorities are decided upon and become policy and is excited to be a part of the discussion on how Kentucky public schools impact the future of the Commonwealth's students.
Osborne's term will expire on June 30, 2024.
