Family Partnership Council (FPC): Serving in an advisory role to the Kentucky Department of Education, this council provides input regarding topics of interest to families, such as ways that families and communities can assist schools in ensuring that the achievement level of all students is increased. The council also aligns itself to KDE’s mission to create broad partnerships to provide leadership and support to ensure every student is equipped for the future. If you are interested in joining, please contact your region’s educational cooperative or contact Leslie Spears for additional information. While on the FPC’s webpage, explore some of the many Success Stories submitted on behalf of districts and schools around the state regarding the ways they are creating trusting relationships with families as partners that are making a positive impact for both students and families.
School-based Decision Making (SBDM) Councils: Membership of each SBDM council is comprised of parents, teachers and an administrator of the school. SBDM councils promote shared leadership among those who are closest to the students with a shared focus on enhancing student achievement. Members are elected and have the responsibility to set school policy and make decisions outlined in statute.
