The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Finance and Operations, Division of School & Community Nutrition, Summer Food Services Branch, has an opening for a Child Nutrition Program Consultant position in Frankfort.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Division of School and Community Nutrition (SCN), Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Branch is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the position of Child Nutrition Consultant. The SFSP Consultant will work with school food service directors and community organizations (sponsors) of the Summer Food Service Program to help plan for summer meals primarily by providing training (as part of the SFSP staff), one-on-one technical assistance on the application of USDA regulatory requirements, and development of resources for sponsors. The position will also require the individual to work with stakeholders across the state with travel required periodically for group training, assisting sponsors, and reviewing meal sites and sponsors.
Provide consultative services (technical assistance and training) to Summer Food Service Sponsors (SFSP).
Evaluate and approve Summer Food Service Program application for program participation.
Conduct Administrative Reviews and/or receive and evaluate corrective action as a result of the administrative reviews, according to United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Conduct outreach and program promotion to potential and return SFSP sponsors.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in education, education administration, food service administration, nutrition, home economics or a related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Five years of professional experience in education administration, vocational education, food service administration, business administration, nutrition education, social work, family therapy, and/or financial auditing/monitoring or a related field.
SUBSTITUTION:
EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
A master's degree OR current certification as a Registered Dietician will substitute for two years of the required experience.
EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Current Rank II or Rank I certification by the Department of Education or Education Professional Standards Board will substitute for the required education OR additional professional experience in education administration, vocational education, food service administration, business administration, nutrition education, social work, family therapy, and/or financial auditing/monitoring or a related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
None.
Preferred Skills:
Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Must be proficient in communicating via email and verbally.
Special working conditions:
Some outside work during Spring and Summer. Meal site visits in the summer may be done on days of higher temperatures.
This position is eligible for consideration for a hybrid schedule that allows for a combination of in-office and approved alternative work scheduling. The agency may terminate or modify the telecommuting arrangement at any time.
This is a federally funded time limited (FFTL) position. This means the position is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the positions. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification but is not required to take an examination or be graded through the testing and evaluation process. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

Applicants currently under contract with a local school district are required to provide a written release from their superintendent prior to an offer of employment is given.
In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Teachers' Retirement System.
