The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Special Education and Early Learning, Division of State Schools, Kentucky School for the Blind, in Louisville, (Jefferson County) has openings for an Elementary Teacher certified in Elementary Education.  ​

​DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


At the Elementary level, implement the Kentucky Core Academic Standards in Math and English/Language Arts and program of studies/core content 4.1 in Science, Social Studies, Arts and Humanities, Practical Living/Career Studies to students who are blind and visually impaired at the Kentucky School for the Blind.

Prepare units, lesson plans and curriculum documents for delivery of instruction.

Develop and implement Individual Education Programs (IEP's) for assigned students.

Prepare achievement reports of student progress at required intervals throughout the school year.

Be assessment literate by developing high quality summative assessments aligned with state standards.  Implement high quality formative assessments in the classroom.

Adhere to characteristics of highly effective teaching and learning.

Be evaluated on the current state adopted teacher evaluation tool.

Earn 36 hours of professional development annually.

Communicate with parents regarding student achievement and behavior.

Understand and follow all school, state and federal policies regarding the education of students with disabilities.

Implement behavior intervention plans, including behavioral intervention, toileting and seizure plans.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must hold a valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate with the Education and Professionals Standards Board. Elementary Certification is required. Applicants must possess certification to teach students who are Blind/Visually Impaired or Elementary certification. Certification in Learning and Behavior Disorders (LBD) or Moderate and Severe Disabilities (MSD) preferred. If persons do not possess VI certification, they must obtain it within 4 years of beginning employment. 

In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Teachers' Retirement System.

2024-2025 Salary:  Dependent upon qualifications, training and experience. Based on JCPS Salary Schedule.
