KDE has been working with National Institute for School and System Leadership (NISL) to provide leadership training to school and district leaders. This nationally recognized leadership development program is designed to help schools and districts transform into high-performing learning environments. NISL equips leaders with the skills, strategies and vision to drive meaningful and sustainable change.
The NISL program consists of three key courses designed to develop strategic, instructional and operational leadership skills:
World-Class Schooling: Vision and Goals – Explore global education trends, set a clear strategic vision and design rigorous instructional systems.
The Research on Learning and Effective Leadership – Apply the science of learning to foster engagement and instructional excellence.
Sustaining Transformation Through Capacity and Commitment – Build a culture of continuous improvement, ethical leadership and long-term school success.
NISL Materials Agreement
The materials agreement is required by NISL and provides guidance on the legal use of materials that are provided during LEAD-Kentucky trainings. This agreement must be signed by all parties prior to participation in any cadre.
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
The MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) is for schools and districts that want to participate in LEAD-Kentucky and are willing to pay for tuition/registration. It outlines the roles and responsibilities of participants, their sponsoring school districts, and the Kentucky Department of Education. A MOU must be signed by all parties prior to participation in any cadre. Financial support may be provided by the Kentucky Department of Education on a year-to-year basis when funds are available, and schools identified for comprehensive support and improvement (CSI) are prioritized.
