The passage of 2008's House Bill 91, also known as the Bullying Bill, requires that KDE provide guidance on implementation of the law's requirements. School districts can find information about the law, assistance on fulfilling its requirements and downloads of guidelines and model policies here.

e-Learning Kentucky offers high-quality, facilitated and interactive courses, eligible for 6, 12, or 24 hours of PD or EILA credit. Registration is August 4-September 5. The average composite ACT score for Kentucky's year 2008 college-bound high school seniors gained slightly over the 2007 composite score, the Kentucky Department of Education and the Council on Postsecondary Education announced. The 2008 composite is 20.9, compared to 2007’s composite of 20.7. See press release.

The Kentucky Department of Education, in collaboration with the Kentucky Board of Education and the Kentucky Reading Association, presents Improving Adolescent Literacy in Kentucky: A Joint Position Statement. The Adolescent Literacy Task Force created this position statement to articulate the need for a comprehensive adolescent literacy plan for the state of Kentucky.

Data indicate that 70.9 percent -- 820 -- of Kentucky's 1,157 public schools made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in the 2007-08 school year under the requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, the Kentucky Department of Education announced today. Register now to attend the Individual Learning Plan Training Sessions to be held beginning in September. There are 3 sessions offered, including Introduction to the Student ILP, Introduction to the School ILP and What's New, Different and Important about the ILP 2008. Trainings are scheduled across Kentucky for teachers, counselors and administrators. Click here for more information and registration application.

School Performance Data to be Released
The Kentucky Department of Education will release data related to the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System (CATS) during August and September. On Tuesday, August 5, NCLB data was publicly released at 8 a.m. EDT. On Wednesday, September 10, at 12:01 a.m. EDT, data from the 2008 administration of the Kentucky Core Content Tests (KCCT) will be publicly released. See press release.

Online Parent Involvement Survey
The Division of Exceptional Children Services and the Office of Teaching and Learning has made available an Online Parent Involvement Survey for parents of students receiving special education services. The deadline to complete the survey is August 30.
