Charter Schools Advisory Council

The Charter Schools Advisory Council is an advisory body to the Kentucky Board of Education, the School Curriculum, Assessment and Accountability Council, the Education Professional Standards Board, the Local Superintendents Advisory Council, and the Legislative Research Commission, to help ensure charter schools maintain the highest quality and provide resources to stakeholder groups regarding charter school activities.
 

The Charter Schools Advisory Council shall:

  • Make recommendations to the Kentucky Board of Education for the adoption of regulations regarding all aspects of charter school operation, including time lines, standards, criteria for acceptance and approval of applications, monitoring of charter schools, appeals to the Kentucky Board of Education, and grounds for revocation of charters.
  • Review charter applications and make recommendations to the Kentucky Board of Education for final approval of charter applications.
  • Recommend actions relating to the appeals of charter applications, renewals of charters, non-renewals of charters, and revocations of charters.
  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities delegated by the Kentucky Board of Education or as established via legislation of the General Assembly.
