National Blue Ribbon Schools
The United States Department of Education is responsible for administering the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, which recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
Kentucky public schools must be nominated by the commissioner of education to be considered for the recognition. Public schools do not need to request consideration to be included in the nomination process. Nominated schools are selected based on all student scores, subgroup student scores and graduation rates, measured by state assessments.
Additional details about the nomination criteria and selection process are available on the U.S. Department of Education website.
