Non-Public Schools

Published: 6/9/2026 10:55 AM

The Kentucky constitution establishes the prerogatives of the parents to choose the formal education for the child. Therefore, parents may choose to have their child educated in a non-public school of their choice.

Non-Public schools must adhere to Kentucky laws regarding school attendance, minimum instructional hours, subjects taught and records kept. These details are explained in the Kentucky Non-Public Schools Information Packet.

In order for a non-public school to obtain a KDE issued school number the school must complete the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) Certification process. Details regarding this process can be found in the Kentucky Non-Public Schools Information Packet.

The KBE Certified Non-Public Schools provides a list of currenlty KBE certified non-public schools along with school demographics.

To update school information (including principal name and email address) or to close an existing non-public school, please complete the Non-Public Request Form. Once submitted a KDE representative will contact you.
