The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Continuous Improvement and Support, Division of School, and Program Improvement, has an opening for a Southern Region Migrant Advocate position, located in the Southern Region. This position will mostly be working in Madison County.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The migrant advocate is responsible for implementing migrant program services to program participants by providing advocacy in academics, college and career transition readiness, school readiness, supporting the success of at-risk students and assisting with personal and social-emotional needs.
The migrant advocate monitors the student's progress and steps in and provides tutoring as needed.
Assists migrant parents with schoolwork to enhance their child's growth and development.
Provides parents with training to work with preschool students and helps parents help their children by using educational resources.
Meets and maintains contact with the child's classroom teacher to determine academic proficiency levels and how the migrant program can assist the child in achieving.
Provides information to a tutor or a school employee that may help design activities to benefit the child.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING OR SKILLS: Bilingualism in Spanish and English is preferred.
Experience in community work.
Specific knowledge and expertise in the areas of migrant recruitment, job development, and placement.
Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state legislation and regulations related to migrant education.
Demonstrate knowledge of effective staff development techniques and the ability to direct and train others.
Demonstrate skills in budget preparation.
Has previous work experience in migrant programs.

Applicants currently under contract with a local school district are required to provide a written release from their superintendent prior to an offer of employment will be given.
In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Teachers' Retirement System.
NOTE: This position is eligible for consideration for a hybrid schedule that allows for a combination of in-office and approved alternative work scheduling. The agency may terminate or modify the telecommuting arrangement at any time.
NOTE: This position will be filled through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). It is preferred that the applicant selected for this position is an employee of a Kentucky local school district or institution of higher education. The position is for 240 days per year.
