What is the Pyramid Model?
The Pyramid Model is a comprehensive, multi-tiered framework of evidence-based practices, rooted in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), that promote young children's social, emotional, and behavioral development. The Pyramid Model focuses on promoting positive behavior and addressing challenging behavior (Hemmeter, Ostrosky, & Corso, 2012).

Introduction
The Early Learning Unit supports the use of the Pyramid Model Framework in State-Funded Preschool Classrooms with intensive and targeted support from the Early Childhood Regional Training Centers (RTC). Intensive or program-wide support to districts intensive support which includes training in the Pyramid Model Framework, Practice-Based Coaching cycles, fidelity walkthroughs with the Teaching Pyramid Observation Tool (TPOT), as well as capacity and action planning based on the Program Wide Benchmarks of Quality.
Kentucky Becomes a Pyramid Model State
During the summer of 2023, Kentucky became the 41st Pyramid Model State through the Pyramid Model Consortium. The Pyramid Model is a framework of evidence-based practices for promoting young children’s healthy social and emotional development. As a Pyramid Model State, Kentucky is working with the Pyramid Model Consortium to create a common vision for addressing the social-emotional needs of children ages birth to 5. The Kentucky Pyramid Model State Leadership Team is designed to build capacity within the state to implement and scale up the Pyramid Model with fidelity. Kentucky Pyramid Model State Leadership Team includes members from the following agencies: the Kentucky Department of Education, Governor’s Office of Early Childhood, Kentucky Head Start Association, Kentucky Early Intervention System, Early Childhood Regional Training Centers, Department for Public Health, Division of Maternal and Child Health, Early Childhood Mental Health, Early Childhood Workforce, Fayette County Public Schools, Kentucky Parent Involvement Network, Department of Community Based Services, Division of Child Care, and higher education.
