​A writing program should empower teachers to use a variety of teaching approaches to meet the needs of individual learners and address the following components:
 
  • Curriculum and Instruction
  • Formative and summative assessments
  • Professional learning and support services
  • Administrative leadership support and monitoring

The following tools may be used by schools to ensure the teaching of writing concepts throughout the school and across the curriculum.

The Literacy Leadership Activity Guide is a tool that will help participants connect key literacy leadership elements in order to stimulate thinking and discussion surrounding literacy topics. ​​

Literacy Leadership-Stories of Schoolwide Success
KET and the Kentucky Department of Education visited a variety of schools in Kentucky and interviewed principals, literacy coaches, curriculum specialists, state educational cooperative literacy consultants and teachers in an effort to capture the type of leadership described in research-based standards.
