Kentucky, as well as the rest of the nation, is continuing to grow more diverse. As a result, Kentucky identified methods for increasing the percentage of minority educators, established programs to identify and recruit minority persons who have already earned college degrees in other job fields, and created awareness among secondary school counselors of the need for minority teachers (KRS: 161.165). 
In order to address the needs of all students and ensure they are college and career ready, it is critical that Kentucky recruits and retains an effective and diverse teacher and leader workforce. The Kentucky Department of Education is committed to this endeavor through a variety of initiatives including:
