The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Special Education and Early Learning, Division of IDEA Implementation and Preschool, Guidance and Support Branch, has an opening for an Exceptional Children Consultant, in Franklin County.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general direction, provide consultative services and technical assistance to local school district personnel and other state and private agencies related to educational programming for students with disabilities which includes children with Autism, Deaf-Blindness, Developmental Delay, Emotional-Behavioral Disabilities, Functional Mental Disabilities, Hearing Impairment, Mild Mental Disabilities, Multiple Disabilities, Orthopedic Impairment, Other Health Impairment, Specific Learning Disabilities, Speech or Language Impairment, Traumatic Brain Injury and Visual Impairment.
Actively participate in other activities and initiatives in the Division of IDEA Implementation and Preschool and the Office of Special Education and Early Learning. Collaborate with other Divisions within the Kentucky Department of Education.
Provide consultative services, professional development and technical assistance to local school district personnel and other state and local agencies related to teaching methodology, curriculum program development and assessment for students with disabilities.
Research, interpret and accurately apply federal and state statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to exceptional children to provide information by telephone, email, and other forms of communication concerning diverse learners.
Provide technical assistance to families related to state and federal regulations, educational programming, and support for students with disabilities.
Develop instructional tools and resources to provide guidance to districts, schools, and teachers regarding diverse learners.
Create and deliver engaging, informative presentations for in-person and virtual training sessions and meetings.
Participate in federally required general supervision responsibilities related to targeted technical assistance and professional development.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Must have four years of professional experience in the field of education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
Must have full certification in special education or exceptional children education. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agencies are responsible for ensuring the employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
This is a federally funded time limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification but is not required to take an examination or be graded through the testing and evaluation process. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Teachers' Retirement System.
