The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office Special Education and Early Learning Division of IDEA Monitoring and Results, Individual Programming Branch, has an opening for an Exceptional Children Consultant, for Franklin County.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accurately interpret and accurately apply federal and state statues, regulations, and policies and procedures related to students with disabilities.
Monitor local school districts to ensure districts are meeting the requirements of the IDEA. Draft, edit, and send monitoring notification letters and reports to local school districts.
Manage local school districts' implementation of corrective action plans (CAPs) and ensure CAPs close within required timelines.
Provide technical assistance to local school districts, parents, families, and other stakeholders regarding the IDEA.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Must have four years of professional experience in the field of education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
Must have full certification in special education or exceptional children education. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
This is a federally funded time limited (FFTL) position. This means the position is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification but is not required to take an examination or be graded through the testing and evaluation process. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Teachers' Retirement System.
